Dedicated Locals Raise Funds

It’s always heart warming to hear about the many people from our area that devote so much time and energy to helping others, and when we heard about Amwell Local Fundraisers – ALF for short, we had to know more.

The group is centred around The Elephant Castle, the local pub in Amwell where, 20 years ago, some of the regulars got together deciding to ‘give something back’ to the great community they lived in, and ALF was formed.

The group realised that old people in the area were too easily overlooked and marginalised, which in turn could lead to loneliness and isolation, so they became determined to change things for the better.

So MiniMagazines were delighted to discover that the clever people at Heartwood Tea Rooms have decided to offer a real Luxury Cheese Special as an addition to their already very extensive menu.

Served with a bottle of good quality red wine, the Luxury Cheese Special for two will suit all cheese lovers looking for a morning or afternoon treat or a even a romantic interlude. Served from a 3 tier glass stand, the taste packed Cheese Special for two will include Artisan biscuits, various chutneys, and pickles, grapes and of course a selection of cheeses. To ensure that cheese lovers can sample a wide variation of cheeses over time, chefs at Heartwood tea rooms told MiniMagazines that the types of cheeses available will be changing all the time, but they are likely to include favourites such as cheddar and stilton through to brie as well as a deliciously strong cheese such as Black Bomber – all so demandingly moreish.

But it’s not just cheese on offer here at this little gem of a cafe; they also serve a traditional afternoon tea as well as breakfasts, lunches and daily specials including a wide range of unusual salads, all from a menu to make any mouth water. We spotted some delicious cakes and were definitely keen to try the delicious sounding fish-finger sandwich. Everyone is catered for too including vegans and vegetarians and you can bring your dog and sit outside in their little sun trap garden.

Understandably, Heartwood Tea Rooms does get busy, so it’s a must to book for afternoon tea and calling ahead on the day if you plan to enjoy the Luxury Cheese Special. Actually, it’s all pretty special here, but for tea and coffee, sandwiches, snacks and things from the general menu, you can just turn up and, if there’s a table free, I’m sure that they will be delighted to see you.
