Exciting Times Ahead for New School

After all the controversy, petitions and appeals, it’s interesting to see the new building for the Kathryn Warington School steadily taking shape in its long-planned position on the outskirts of Wheathampstead.

The skeleton of the main building looks well underway and all is apparently on schedule. The phase one build of the sports centre, which will be repurposed with classrooms, is on track and scheduled for completion and handover by 19th September.

MiniMagazines spoke to Tony Smith, Head Teacher for the new school, who explained that the Year 7 students will attend an induction programme at the University of Hertfordshire Law Court building on Thursday 5th September and then ‘graduate’ on Friday 20th September.

The whole school will be at Camp Wilderness at Knebworth on 23rd-25th September for an outdoor bonding adventure camp followed by two INSET (teacher training) days.

Students will be welcomed at the Katherine Warington site on Monday 30th September.

Tony said, “We met all our students on Transition Day on July 11th and they had a great time doing taster lessons in Spanish, building structures from marshmallows and spaghetti, doing PE, visiting the University pop up planetarium and writing letters to their future selves to be opened when they are in Year 11. It was a delight for my staff and I to see our work start to come to fruition. I thank all our parents for their kind support on the dayand we look forward with eager anticipation to seeing the students again in September.”

It’s quite clearly an exciting time for pupils and teachers and everyone involved.
